"For food that stays our hunger, for rest that brings us ease, for homes where memories linger, we give our thanks for these." "May this food nourish our bodies, our hearts be filled with gratitude, and our souls be at peace. Amen." **

The beatitudes are a set of teachings given by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, found in the Gospel of Matthew. They are a series of blessings that describe the characteristics and attitudes that are valued in the Kingdom of God. So, while the beatitudes contain blessings, they are not the same as blessings. The beatitudes are more like a set of guidelines for living a blessed and fulfilling life, while blessings are the actual state of being favored or receiving divine favor. **
